У Эдинбурга долгая и богатая литературная традиция: сэр Вальтер Скотт, Джеймс Хогг, Роберт Люис Стивенсон, сэр Артур Конан Дойль, Д.К.Роулинг и многие другие мастера слова жили и работали в этом «древнем и известном Метрополисе Севера». Наша прогулка основана на «живописных заметках» об Эдинбурге, написанных автором знаменитых приключенческих романов, писателем и поэтом Робертом Люисом Стивенсоном. Вы пройдете по самым знаковым местам города, прочувствуете его дух и характер, познакомитесь с местными обычаями и взглянете на древний Эдинбург, названный ЮНЕСКО «Городом Литературы».

Что вас ожидает

Во многом личное произведение Роберта Люиса Стивенсона впервые было опубликовано в 1879 году. Отчасти путеводитель, отчасти комментарии об обществе, эта книга даёт очаровательное и проницательное описание «Старому Дымокуру». «Пожалуй, это имя городу дали люди, никогда не пересекающие ворота города: изо дня в день из своих деревушек они взирали на строения на вершине холма и длинный плюмаж дыма над равниной; так город предстал им, так же он предстал их отцам, обрабатывающим те же поля; и это было всё, что они знали об этом месте, всё заключалось в этих двух словах – «Старый Дымокур».

Мы начнём нашу прогулку в саду Принцесс стрит, бывшем когда-то Северным озером, разделяющем ныне Старый и Новый Город. Поднимемся в Старый Город и от Эдинбургского замка пройдёмся по главной Королевской Миле, заходя в узкие тупики и улочки, насыщенные историями и легендами. «Характер места зачастую лучше всего выражен в ассоциациях, связанных с ним. На благоприятной почве событие пускает корни и перерастает в легенду. Ужасное происшествие, ко всему прочему случившееся в ужасном месте, обретает романтический окрас и становится бессмертной летописью в истории…»

Заглянем в таверну «Дикона Броди», прототипа героя романа Стивенсона «Странная история Доктора Джекила и Мистера Хайда». Дойдём до собора святого Джайлза на Парламентской площади и «Сердца Мидлозиан». А после, от многолюдной и шумной Хай стрит по застроенному мосту Джорджа IV спустимся вниз к тихому, живописному и необычному кладбищу Грей Фрайерс.

«Мы, шотландцы, находимся, как мне кажется, выше других наций в нашем умении зловеще иллюстрировать смерть. Мы любим сами по себе различные эмблемы и символы; и даже вокруг провинциальных деревушек вы найдёте превосходную коллекцию черепов, костей, безносых ангелов, и трубачи, возвещающие о Судном дне...» Далее знаменитый Грассмаркет, и по мощённой улочке Уэст Боу и Виктория стрит вверх обратно к Замку.

Наше небольшое путешествие, благодаря прекрасному описанию города и его жителей Р.Л.Стивенсоном, будет протекать не только в пространстве, но и во времени. Удивительно, насколько сильно за последние 150 лет изменились традиции и обычаи Северной Столицы! Современный девиз «Эдинбург – город вдохновения» куда более характеризует этот живой, красивый и весёлый город, нежели его исторический девиз «Без Бога всё тщетно».

Эдинбург — это город, который нужно не просто увидеть, а «прожить». Огромная благодарность нашему гиду за это погружение! Лера не просто называла даты, а рассказывала истории, зачитывала заметки Стивенсона, очень было интересно. Гид показала нам такие закоулки и «закрытые дворики», в которые мы бы ни за что не зашли сами. Отдельное спасибо за лайфхак с дегустацией виски, за рекомендацию по заведениям и интересные факты о написании Гарри Поттера. Эдинбург показался нам мистическим, немного суровым, но очень уютным. Советую эту экскурсию всем, кто хочет влюбиться в Шотландию с первого взгляда.

Были на экскурсии у Леры с мужем — нам очень понравилось! Лера — невероятно интересный рассказчик, настоящий кладезь знаний об истории и культуре, а ещё очень романтичный человек. Мы прошли по местам, связанным с Робертом Льюисом Стивенсоном, обсудили историю Шотландии и жизнь современных шотландцев. Лера также посоветовала нам много интересных мест, которые стоит посетить дополнительно. Очень рекомендуем!

Только вернулись с экскурсии, и в абсолютном восторге. Лера явно сама любит и Эдинбург, и Шотландию, и историю, и литературу. Знала больше чем можно было вместить в 4 часа, рассказывала все очень понятно, раскладывая все важные моменты в истории Шотландии по полочкам. Спасибо, Лере, Эдинбург заиграл яркими красками после ее рассказа!
